"Design it, Drive it : Speedboats" is in the review queue at Valve for release on Steam on July 26, 2016. If everything goes smoothly it'll release on (or possibly before) that date.

(Forums here are a little goofy with links. Just copy the part in quotes or search on Steam for "Design it, Drive it : Speedboats.")

Current players that bought the product through the website will be given a free Steam key upon request after release so they can play it through Steam. To sign up for a key so you can play it on Steam, reply to this thread. Keys should become available a day or two after the Steam release at the latest.

Only one key will be issued per player, so don't share your key or you won't be able to play it on Steam without buying the product again.

All current, active players are encouraged to play through Steam for a couple of reasons. First, there are two separate top speed leaderboards. One is here at the main website and the other is on the Steam server. These are two separate systems, part of the last patch (1.216) was a new leaderboard system that combines the results from both leaderboards and displays that at the end of a top speed shootout run. Steam users can see everyone's results while non-Steam users can only see the results of other non-Steam users. So it's best for everyone to be on Steam.

Another big benefit is that the Steam servers are much faster than the server here at speedboatsim.com. I'm getting download speeds of some 7MB/sec or so through the Steam servers, so getting a new patch often only takes a few seconds, maybe up to a minute if it's a big one.

I'd like a key when available! I'm excited to see where the sim goes from here, Steam should be a big boost and allow for tons of feedback.

Steam release is on schedule. T minus 7 hours...

Thanks, everyone! I'm excited and nervous at the same time. It's make it or break it time here in a few hours.

I've just uploaded the final build to Steam and tested it. It includes a new bug fix or two for obscure things so hopefully the rare problems that do occur will either stop completely or at least become a little more rare. 😛

A quick heads up for everybody in case you have friends that want to purchase it too: The only way to buy it for the foreseeable future will now be through Steam. I've removed the game from this website's store page so nobody can buy it here anymore. Steam only now. All of you who purchased it before today can still play either version, but people won't be able to buy it here anymore. This is a precaution against Steam key scams which can put me right out in the street overnight. So I'm not taking any chances.

I've requested a small batch of keys so as soon as those arrive and Steam has released the game there, I'll contact you all by email individually and give you your key as promised. Once you have it running and everything is ok, I'd recommend at that point that you just delete/uninstall the original version that you have now. Getting game patches through Steam is a zillion times faster and Steam has its own leaderboard system which could be used to expand into separate boards for different boat classes and so on some day, and the only way to see everyone that plays is to use the Steam version.

Transferring to Steam: If you have boats saved in the non-Steam version that you want to use on the Steam version, just copy them from your original "Boats" folder into the Steam/SteamApps/Design it Drive it Speedboats/Boats folder.

Just a quick reminder for any lurkers with unscrupulous ideas (not you guys): I will be keeping close tabs on the keys and who they go to, each request will be manually verified before being sent. There will only be one key per purchase issued, so if anyone gives their Steam key away they will have to purchase it again in order to play it on Steam.

I look forward to seeing you all on Steam! Feel free to send me a Steam friend request: I can be found under the name: ToddW. A quick message saying "I'm so and so on the main DIDI website" would be helpful so I know who you are. 🙂

Good reviews will be helpful too since Steam bases the exposure of a product somewhat on the number of good reviews a product receives. So anyone taking the time to write a review will really be helping out the project!

Thanks again for all the support. See you all very soon on Steam!

Hey all. My Steam name is "Capt. Nicholas",
i have achieved Leaderboard Spot #11 for Top Speed Shootout.
My top speed was marked at 121.6MPH!
The boat is basically the yellow short course pre made boat made into 19' roughly but fitted with 3x 300,
so it has a tendency to flip when idling!
Happy Boating!

In case you guys are curious, Steam release is going pretty well! The number of users since last November has already increased more than 50% in only five days. 🙂

Financially this is very helpful. It's not going to make millions or be a blockbuster, but if sales can keep on this pace it should at least pay me enough to keep going with this. It might dip a little bit under where it is now soon, but at least it extends the time before the savings account disappears entirely. With some new additions (tunnel boats) it might do ok. 🙂

Tunnel boats are sitting on the back burner for a bit longer while I do some shorter, quicker updates for Steam based on feedback new players are providing. As soon as some of those quick things are knocked off the list, I'll be working with an F1 boat driver on getting the handling and design variables to work as realistically as possible. He's even going to supply some CAD info.
